Lois Lambert Gallery presents the collected works of Erick Oh in his first solo exhibition, “His Chamber.” Toward the end of Erick Oh’s undergraduate studies in Korea where he learned traditional illustration and painting, he was drawn to animation as a way to fully express his personal narratives. As Erick develops each of his films, he paints and sketches individual watercolor illustrations that serve as the primary inspiration for the final narrative. In “His Chamber,” Oh takes the viewer through his creative process from start to finish with watercolor illustrations, ceramic sculptures, and the animated short “How to eat your Apple.” Oh combines his cast of characters and symbols in what he describes as a “moving illustration” discussing life, death and the potential for everything in between.

A cross between painting, printmaking, sculpture, and photographic process, Lucinda Luvaas’ graphic mixed media works capture the drama and energy of fleeting moments of urban life. The artist finds inspiration in dynamic design and compositions of urban life. Focusing on specific moments and interactions, Luvaas’ work becomes a meditation on transience. These “imprints” of temporary moments are developed through an intricate, multilayered transfer technique combined with traditional painting methods. Luvaas begins with bold background color patterns to create the mood, and then the textured graphic detail is overlaid creating a balanced interplay between the background and foreground. The artist depicts relatable and universal scenes of life, inviting the viewer to look closer, reflect, and celebrate life’s moments.
